Influenzinum

In a recent post I spoke about the effectiveness of Oscillococcinum for the beginning stages of the flu. The problem with Oscillococcinum is the effectiveness of this medicine seems to be limited to the first 24 hours of the symptoms manifesting. If you miss that window, as many do, the effectiveness of this medicine is lost. You will need something else. That something else is Influenzinum.

Influenzinum is the nosode of influenza. “Nosodes are broad‑spectrum, widely used homoeopathic preparations sourced from biological materials such as cultures or clinical samples of microorganisms (e.g. bacteria, fungi, and viruses) or from parasites, diseased tissues (cancerous tissues), or decomposition products from humans or animals. About forty‑five[1] such nosodes have been used by homoeopathic practitioners since 1830.” Rajesh Shah, 1. Allen HC. Materia medica of the nosodes. Reprinted ed. New Delhi B Jain Publishers; 1988.

Influenzinum may be given in the 12c or 30c potency, It is also available in the 200c potency for more serious, stubborn cases. The recommendation would be to start with the lower potencies and work up in potency, if needed. Generally, take a dose every 2 hours until relief. When there is a relief of symptoms stop dosing. If the relief is lost, start dosing once again. If the relief from the previous potency is lost, not effective, then go up in potency.

Influenzinum may also be used as a prophylactic to the flu. At the beginning of the flu season take a dose of Influenzinum every two weeks. Continue this throughout the season of flu. Potencies of 12c, 30c or 200c may be used for this purpose. If the current flu symptoms of the season are particularly strong consider using the 200c potency as a prophylactic. Write it in your calendar as a reminder to take a dose every 2 weeks.
