Acupressure

Chinese Medicine theory, assessment, and treatment techniques are included in our massage school program here at NMSNT. Selection of the organs, meridians, and points to be treated is determined by listening to the client’s symptoms, inquiring further, looking at their tongue, reading their pulses, palpating specific pressure points, and general observation of their expression, skin color, appearance, and tone of voice. By combining all of this information, one can perceive a pattern of energy excesses and deficiencies, as well as a treatment plan. Assessment is never made by observing one symptom alone, but results from observing the holistic patterns of imbalance.

Medical Qi Gong

Medical Qigong is an ancient form of Chinese energetic medicine, and is one of the four main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage. As with the other “Branches” of TCM, healing occurs through balancing qi or electromagnetic energy which surrounds and pervades all living creatures.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese style of therapy that originated from Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu uses a slow, deep tissue pressure to affect the physical body (muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and organs) as well as the energy of the body (Ki). Pressure is exerted with finger and thumb pads, heels of the hands, knuckles, forearms or elbows. Slow, deep touch affects the Yin of the body, from where blockages originate. Slow, deep pressure also aids the client to deeply relax, during which blockages can be released. At the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics, Shiatsu is taught using an awareness of the direction of flow of the meridians, allowing the therapist to increase or reduce the amount of Ki in the meridians and their related organs.

Windows of the Sky

Windows of the Sky are a series of Acupressure points that help Qi move upwards in the body, thus increasing awareness and acceptance of life experiences. This results in letting go of energy patterns that no longer serve us. Physical, emotional and spiritual imbalances realign so that we can move to the next step in our journey. These points are stimulated with light finger pressure and some with Essential Oils. The experience is dream-like and meditative, during which greater clarity and resolution is achieved.
