We live in environments filled with all sort of living organisms, both big and small. Most of these organisms are doing the same things human beings are, living!! Unfortunately there are times when the habitats of bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc. get out of hand and begin to cause dis-ease. As healthcare practitioners we have the opportunity to come in to contact with all sorts of conditions. Classes taught at NMSNT are presented as a unit to familiarize students with disease from a variety of perspectives including the ethical challenges of working with HIV or other chronic illness. We also discuss and practice Universal Precautions so that we can contain the spreading of these conditions to ourselves and/or to the people we help. With cancer being a huge issue in these times, the pathology and bodywork treatment of cancer is discussed. Bodywork techniques appropriate for clients during all stages of cancer are taught including Cancer (Oncology) Massage, Chinese Medicine, and Polarity Therapy. Pain relief, comfort, and contraindications are emphasized.
